Low and High Water Pressure Repairs

Nothing is more irritating than low water pressure. For some, low water pressure creeps up on you over many years; but for others, it can happen overnight. If the problem is isolated to one location, chances are you have a clogged aerator that needs replacing. If the problems in the shower, you'll want to remove your showerhead and clean it. Hard water mineral deposits will build up on our fixtures, causing them to clog. Soaking your shower head in a plastic bag with vinegar overnight can loosen the deposits. If the problem is taking place throughout the house, then you have to do some troubleshooting. The best place to start is to check with your neighbor to see if they're having the same problem. In some cases, the problem can be traced back to the local water utility company, and everyone in the neighborhood is having the same experience.

Are You Experiencing Low Water Pressure In The Shower?

Another reason for low water pressure could be supply and demand. For instance, if three people are showering at the same time, you may experience low water pressure. The same holds true for running several appliances simultaneously. For the best water pressure, you may want to stagger using your appliances and showering. Plan on watering your lawn when you're least likely to use the shower or appliances. Also, water your lawn during the coolest part of the day where water is best absorbed.

It's An Easy Fix For Any Homeowner

Every homeowner should know where the main water shut off valve is located, in case of an emergency. Most homes in California have the main shut off valve on an outside wall or in the garage. You can almost draw a line from your main water meter at the street to where your shutoff valves are located. It's not uncommon for the shutoff valve to be slightly closed, causing low water pressure, especially if you recently had to turn it off because of a plumbing issue. There are usually two types of valves, one that operates as a lever and another like a wheel. It's an easy fix for any homeowner to locate and open it. For the lever, turn it 90 degrees and for the wheel open it all the way by turning it counterclockwise. Trust your water pressure repair experts at Rezab Plumbing.

Your Water Pressure Repair Specialist Recommends 40 to 60 PSI

The recommended water pressure for your home is between 40 and 60 pounds per inch (PSI). Any homeowner can check their water pressure by purchasing a water pressure gauge at their local home center. Tthey're less than ten dollars and an excellent tool. I think most would agree that good water pressure is part of our quality of life. While low water pressure is concerning, high water pressure can wreak havoc on our plumbing system.

Water Pressure Over 80 PSI Violates City Code

High water pressure is anything over 80 PSI. It not only violates city codes, but it can also cause problems for our water heater and other appliances. Your water pressure regulator has a life expectancy of 10 to 15 years, and in some cases, it can last up to 20 years. A broken water pressure regulator is another reason for high water pressure. Instead of waiting for your pressure regulator break, try changing it before it reaches 15 years old.  According to the California Plumbing Code, if the water pressure in your area is more than 80 PSI, then it is the homeowner's responsibility to have a water pressure regulator installed.

Rezab Plumbing, Your Water Pressure Repair Expert

In a worst-case scenario, your low water pressure may be deriving from minerals built up in the pipes. Both galvanized steel and copper pipes have a life expectancy of 40 to 60 years. Over that span, mineral deposits can build up, causing the pipes to constrict. In some instances, your Rezab Plumbing, water pressure repair expert, will remove and replace that section of pipe.  However, your pipes may need replacing altogether.
